Local council officials have begun offering advice to residents in the Godalming area on how to celebrate this year's Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The events will mark 60 years of the Queen's reign and national celebrations will take place over the long weekend of 2-5 June 2012.

As part of the celebration weekend, The Big Jubilee Lunch will take place on Sunday 3 June 2012. It will be the fourth annual Big Lunch will fall on the same weekend as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. So anyone who would like to celebrate and commemorate the Queen's 60 year reign can do so by holding a Big Jubilee Lunch!

As announced by Buckingham Palace The Big Jubilee Lunch will be a part of the main programme of events over the central weekend of Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June 2012. A special 4-day bank holiday - Saturday 2nd to Tuesday 5th June - will take place so there will be plenty of time for you to enjoy lunching at events around the Godalming area.

If you would like to organise a street party or any other event on the road, you must apply for a Road Closure Order as soon as possible. You can download the form from the related links on Waverley Council's organising street parties and events page.

If you are organising a neighbourhood street party a licence is not normally needed if you plan to provide alcohol for free at your event. And if you want to sell alcohol you will need a 'temporary events notice' which costs £21.

You can serve and sell food up to 11pm without a licence.

You don't need a music licence, whether the music is live or prerecorded, as long as:

your street party is a private party for residents

the music has not been advertised in advance to attract people or to make money

If you are planning a major event, particularly where the sale of alcohol will take place, you may need a temporary events notice and if you would like to hang bunting from street lighting, you must get permission from Surrey County Council. It is against the law to put bunting over, along or in the highway without first obtaining permission from the highway authority.

Having a street party or community event to celebrate? Waverley Council will have a special Diamond Jubilee listings section on its' website closer to the time. .
