GODALMING CLAIM ANOTHER FA CUP SCALP

Godalming Town produced a superb team performance to claim another FA cup scalp at the wekend.

The Gs have performed heroics in the FA Cup this season and it was an interesting distraction to travel to Kingsmeadow to face Ryman Premier side Kingstonian. Town lined up with Damien Smith replacing Antonio Simeone, Gavin Smith instead of hattrick hero Dan Read and Brett Cooper replacing Warren Harris. The opening exchanges were even with both sides going close. Ali Chabaan looked dangerous for the home side whilst Scott Harris was causing the home defence headaches.

Jamie Norris saved superbly to his left to keep the score at 0-0 but it was Town that opened the scoring when Ben Edwards headed in from close range after a cross from the left from Adam Foulser.

The second half started well for Godalming but the Town were denied a clear penalty when Tom Hutchinson clearly blocked a Darren Wheeler cross with an outstretched arm. Scott Harris almost doubled Town's lead but his shot was saved after superb work Brett Cooper and McClurg. Godalming defended well to see out the remaining 15 minutes but relied on some shocking finishing from the hosts who blazed a number of efforts over Norris' crossbar.

This was Godalming's first ever victory against Kingstonian and adds £2,200 to Neil Baker and Jon Underwood's prize money account for the 2011/12 season. The draw will take place on Monday morning.

Next up for Godalming is Blue Square South side Maidenhead United in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round next Saturday. The game will be played at Wey Court, kick off 3pm.
