Two courageous Godalming women have paid a heartflet 'thankyou' to all those who supported them through an astonishing epic journey which many said could never be done.
Anna and Victoria celebrate their marathon triumph
For just a year after breaking her back in a climbing accident in Chile, Victoria Grove from Hambledon near Godalming and her friend Anna Ridout were finally recovering from their run of a lifetime...after completing eight marathons in just eight days, ending in last Sunday's London Marathon.
The pair aimed to raise over £5,000 for two charities, Aspire and Back Up, which work to help people affected by spinal cord injuries. But to date they have raised over £13,000 through their efforts.
Victoria broke three vertebrae during a climbing trip to Chile in 2011, but despite her severe injuries she has fought her way back to fitness.
The pair's epic 220 mile run began in Paris for the marathon in the French capital, and saw see them run across north-west France to Dieppe, taking a ferry to Newhaven, and ending outside Buckingham Palace in the Virgin London marathon...last Sunday .... after running straight up from the south coast of England.
"Our final day on the challenge was filled with high points." explains Victoria."like meeting Denise Lewis (and having our t-shirts signed by her!); being cheered by many friends, family and members of the public along the route; being on national TV and radio; crossing the finish line after our 8th marathon; and finally, the great celebrations in the pub at the end. "
With their legs covered in support tape, limping and looking slightly dishevelled, the girls had some signs made to try and explain to fellow runners that they weren't just ill-prepared and had actually just run 7 of these already. This summed up a great amount of support from runners who offered their well wishes and luck for the final leg.
"A huge THANK YOU to everybody who has supported, sponsored and helped us in every way. We really could not have done it without you." added Victoria and Anna.
