The Godalming area boasts some of the best schools in the county.

And each year there is a high influx of residents from inner city London or surrounding areas, with one eye firmly fixed on being able to place their children in the large number of quality schools whether it be at primary, junior or senior level as well as state and independent.

Now, at this time of year many of those schools are opening their doors to the public and the parents of prospective parents who want the best education possible for their children.

Here godalmingpeople gives you a guide to the schools and the opportunties to see hem for themselves.

King Edward's School at Witley which is a first class independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 11-18, where excellent facilities and dedicated teaching promote high achievement in every sphere of life.

This year over 89% of the Upper Sixth gained the equivalent of A* to C at IB or A Level. King edwards is offereing special Open Mornings for prospective pupils on September 17, October 13 and November 12.

One of the longest established schools in the area is Charterhouse School at Godalming which boasts a string of famous names as previous pupils, inclduing TV presenter David Dimbleby. The pupils age range spans 13-18, with some 740 pupils –both boarders and day.

In 2008 Charterhouse School at Godalming introduced a new set of courses, the Cambridge Pre-University Qualification, in response to university demands for better preparation for higher education. It has pioneered the new courses and is, along with Winchester College, the school teaching the most subjects with the most candidates.At the famous school, 40% of this year's Pre-U entries were graded at the two highest Distinction levels (D1 or D2).

These two top grades are both rated more highly than an A* at A level in the UCAS tariff. Four pupils gained four D1 grades (top Distinctions) and a further thirteen achieved grades which were all at or above the A*/D2 level. Eighty-seven pupils gained at least three grades at or above the equivalent of an A level A grade. Open mornings can be arranged by appointment throughout September.

The nearby Aldro School at Shackelford was founded in Eastbourne in 1898 and moved to Shackleford in 1940. It is owned and administered by an Educational Trust and is a boarding and day preparatory school for about 200 boys between the ages of 7 and 13. The Aldro Open Morning is being held on October 1 from 11.00am until 12.30pm.

Elsewhere, Barrow Hills at Witley is a co-educational, Catholic 3-13 Prep School which welcomes children from all denominations. The school's open morning is on Tuesday October 11.

St. Hilary's School at Holloway Hill, Godalming has had much to celebrate this year achieving Green Flag ECO school status and receiving an outstanding school inspection report. The school will be opening its' doors to the public for Open Days on Sptember 19th, October 17th and November 21st.

Prior's Field girls school in Godalming celebrated some excellent A Level results again this year. One fifth of all grades were A* with nearly half A*/A and 81% A*- C. In the creative arts over three quarters of students achieved A* or A and in maths and physics two thirds achieved these top grades. The school will be holding Open Day on Saturday October 1st from 10.00am
