Drivers in the Godalming area received a further boost today as the The Hindhead Tunnel on the A3 was fully opened.

The final opening came just two days after the southbound carriageway was officially opened by Transport Minister Philip Hammond, four years after work began.

For two days motorists heading south have been able to use the new £371 million road tunnel the longest Britain. This means that now drivers coming towards Guildford can feel the benefits too.

The A3 now completely bypasses the Devil's Punchbowl.

After the opening on Wednesday, local drivers attempting to enter the tunnel from near Brook complained of queues of cars attempting to use the tunnel to get the 'experience'.

"It was just as though nothing had been happening for the last four years." said one driver. "The queues were just as bad as ever."
