A special event to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne will be held in Godalming next week.

The High Sherriff of Surrey, Professor Michael Joy, will be joined by the Mayor of Waverley, Cllr Richard Gates, at the Pepperpot at 10am on Saturday February 11 for a Special Adress to mark the occasion.

Prof Joy will read a loyal address and, along with Cllr Gates, he will be joined by town mayors from across the borough.

The event has been organised by Waverley Borough Council to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen's accession. Accession Day itself is on Monday February 6th.

"To be Mayor of Waverley at the start of year when we will be celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is a great honour," Cllr Gates explains. "The accession address by the High Sherriff of Surrey on Saturday February 11 is something for the whole community to come along to, listen to and enjoy. It will start with a procession along Godalming High Street and I hope people can find the time to join us in marking 60 years of the Queen as Head of State."
