Whatever your tastebuds, Godalming's many varied resturants offer a superb array of venues to celebrate Christmas in style.

So with the countdown to Christmas firmly underway, godalmingpeople now serves up a tasty menu of local restaurants for those who may want to party or who fancy eating out on Christmas Day rather than face all the washing up after lunch Here are a few options which may suit all those who want to party on the way to the holiday or enjoy a Christmas Day lunch to sooth some of the pressures of the festive season.

The Inn On The Lake

Being one of Godalming's top restaurant , this hotel, eatery and pub offers a cosy ambience on a cold winter's night with Festive Menu Lunch £23, Evening £28 , or a varied Christmas Day lunch for £69 per person.

Main courses include Pumpkin and apple soup with Braeburn apple crisps, Seared black pearl scallops with crispy chorizo on crushed broad beans, roasted vine tomatoes and fresh basil; Traditional roasted turkey with apricot and sage stuffing, pigs in blankets and bread sauce ; Pan fried fillets of sea bass with crayfish & chive croquettes, saffron and lobster sauce and asparagus; Beef fillet wellington with duxelle truffle and madeira jus.

 

The Refectory

Those who have not visited The Refectory before will be enchanted by its historical ambience and oepn fires. Relying on good food, cask ales instead of discos or entertainment, The Refectory is still offering a Christmas Menu (as well as its regular one) of two courses for £17.95 for two course or £22.95. Dishes include starters of caramelised onion tart tatin with shaved Tornegus cheese, spinach and herb salad; Terrine of wood pigeon, guinea fowl and smoked chicken with clove-pickled pear while main courses include Pheasant breast with sage and sausage stuffing crust, buttered broccoli and Chanteney carrots, with potato fondant or Chilli and mango crusted sea bream, with creamed lemongrass broth and crab-stuffed baby gem.

The Woolpack at Elstead

Celebrate Christmas at this traditional pub which is serving either a two or three course Christmas Menu for £18.50 or £24.25 which includes starters of Homemade Bubble & Squeak Soup with bread ;

Baked Capricorn Goats Cheese & Red Pepper Filo Tart with mixed leaves or main courses such as Roast Turkey with Festive Trimmings Roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing, gravy & cranberry sauce or Pan-Fried Hake Fillet with creamed leeks, new potatoes & crayfish butter.

 

The Crown Inn, Chiddingfold

This beautiful historical pub andhotel set on the Green of the picturesque village is offering a Christmas Day Menu which includes: Roast vine tomato soup with basil mascarpone

Confit of duck, smoked duck & fois gras terrine with plum chutney and toasted brioche; Scallop, cured salmon and tiger prawn brochette with a fennel and carrot fricasseé and Sauterne cream with mains of Roast turkey with sage & apricot stuffing and seasonal trimmings Roast fillet of beef with fondant potato, shallot & balsamic tart tatin and a truffled jus. Prices are : £75.00 per person

The Swan Inn, Chiddingfold

Smart and relaxing restaurant and pub in this lovely village is offering a varied Christmas Day menu, which begins with a glass of Prosecco on arrival followed by starters which include spiced parsnip soup, game sausage rolls ; Pan seared foie gras on a granary croute with quince puree, black pepper tuille, spiced red wine reduction & caramelised sherry vinegar.

 

Mouth watering mains include roast turkey, goose fat potatoes, cranberry stuffing, spiced red cabbage, bacon wrapped chipolatas, sprouts & bread sauce or Roast fillet of beef, Jerusalem artichoke mash, sauted broccoli with chestnuts and Madeira jus followed by desserts.£75.00 per person £35.00 Children under 12

The Merry Harriers, Hambledon, Nr. Godalming

This comfortable, traditional country pub is offering a varied Christmas Fayre Menu until the 24th December with prices at 2 courses £20 – 3 Courses £26 with a Christmas Day Menu including starters of Orange Cured Tuna or Venison Liver Pate, with mains of Roast Turkey or Beef Wellington on 25th December for £59.50.

The Stag On The River, Eashing Nr. Godalming

Set in a tranquil location in this hamlet, this comfortable pub and restaurant with open fires and traditional ambience is the perfect spot to celebrate Christmas. They are offering up a Christmas Party menu, or a Christmas Day menu which includes Porcini mushroom soup topped with rocket and fresh Winter Truffle, followed by roast Sussex turkey and trimmings; grilled fillet of beef or halibut and dessert for £65.50.

The Squirrel, Hurtmore, Nr. Godalming

Take the "OH OH OH" out of your Christmas with a Christmas Day lunch at this fine country pub, situated just of the A3. Starters include Porcini mushroom risotto with rocket & fresh Winter truffle

Braeburn apple & celeriac soup with apple crisps & toasted chestnuts;Duck liver & foie gras parfait with quince jelly & toasted brioche or Pan seared Scottish king scallops with royal Lancaster black pudding, parsnip puree & crispy pancetta.

Main courses include Roasted Norfolk turkey & Tamworth ham with goose fat roast potatoes, sausage, bacon & sage loaf & turkey gravy; Venison wellington with celeriac puree, glazed baby carrots & Madeira jus or Pan roasted fillet of Turbot with fondant potatoes braised in vermouth, samphire & brown shrimp butter. £65.00 per person.

The White Hart, Witley Nr. Godalming

You will be assured of a warm welcome from landlady Sara at this newly renovated country pub which is dishing up a special Christmas menu until 'the big day itself. Starters include roasted sweet potato and chilli soup served with rustic bread, along with main including traditional turkey and trimmings or braised lamb shank as well as others.Two courses are £14.95 per person or three courses for £21.95 per person.

The Three Horse Shoes at Thursley

This comfortable country pub and restaurant is stretching its' Christmas party menu until December 23rd. Two courses are £23.50 or three for  £27.50pp . They also have a Christmas Day menu which includes: Ballantine of local duck, pheasant, rabbit and wood pigeon or roast Angus forerib of beef with horseradish etc.

The White Lion , Milford

There's and extensive Christmas Day menu at this pub restaurant for £65.00pp or £32.00 for under 12s. The menu includes a Menage a Trois: Brie, Gambas Prawn and deep fried mushrooms served with a selection of disps while main course choices include crispy Honey Roast Duck glazed with honey on orange and Grand Marnier sauce or Beef Wellington, with dauphinoisepotato and Bordelaise sauce.
