Cash crisis?....What cash crisis?
Well may you ask!
For although Waverley Borough Council is bracing itself for the forthcoming cutbacks prescribed by the Government, organisations in the voluntary and charitible organisations in the Godalming area look set to benefit from local authority windfall being offered.
More than £500,000 is being made available to voluntary, community and charitable organisations in the area. This charitible windfall is an annual handout made by Waverley Borough Council's Community Partnership Fund provides essential money towards the running costs of organisations that help thousands of local people.
To qualify, organisations need to show they deliver high priority services in the fields of environment, improving lives, leisure and give value for money. In previous years organisations that have benefited from the fund include day centres, Citizens Advice Bureaux, Haslemere Educational Museum and Sport Godalming.
Cllr David Munro, Waverley Borough Council's councillor responsible for Economic Development and Community, said: "With public sector finances coming under pressure like never before, the amount of community partnership funding available in the borough demonstrates our commitment to supporting the voluntary sector.
"Although funding may be more limited this year, we are absolutely committed to making the most of this partnership working to secure the very best services for everyone who needs them in Waverley."
The deadline for applications for the grant is 12pm on 26 October.
Which organistions would you like to see benefit from the scheme or do you have a 'pet project' which you think might qualify for a share? Or do you think that in these times of projected cash cutbacks the scheme should be postponed?....or is this just the time when we need the scheme the most? What do you think?
