It appears that Stagecoach will no longer operate the 46 service from Rodborough after school. This decision has been taken without telling anyone at the school or without any consultation at all.
Surely this will cause much confusion and disruption for many of the pupils who rely on that service.
Fine, pupils may still catch this bus in the morning, but they have been warned not to purchase a return ticket. But wouldn't it have been coureteous to at least discuss the decision and give adequate notice?
Fortunately there is an alternative bus service operated by Arriva that leaves Rodborough at the end of the school day as follows:
No. 70 which leaves at 3.45pm and 4.15pm and goes to Godalming, and also stops at The Godalming Arms(formally The Wey Inn)
and then the Leathern Bottle on Meadrow near the junction with King's Road on the A3100.
Alternatively, pupils travelling to Farncombe can catch the train at Milford - trains leave at 3.47pm and 4.43pm.
But surely common courtesy in informing passengers (especially parents) should have prevailed!

Whilst Arriva are doing an alternative service I had word from my brother that they plan to increase their fees next week. Bit rich for the government to suggest taking more public transport when it costs so much. Sigh.

Hmm....a good point! Combine that with the increases to rail travel and petrol prices soaring it's going to be too expensive to go anywhere!

It looks like the situation is worse than originally thought.

Rodborough headmaster Andrew Smith now tells us that Stagecoach has stopped operating the number 46 service both in the morning and after school.

In a note to Rodborough parents he sums up the feeling of many, by adding:

"Unfortunately, the information circulated to parents yesterday has changed as we now understand that Stagecoach has ceased operating the 46 service to Rodborough both in the morning and after school. As you know, the service is operated by Stagecoach and therefore the school has little input in terms of discussions as to whether the route is commercially viable or not. What does concern me is that this service has been withdrawn without any notice to the school and therefore you as parents.
There is an alternative route, the details of which are outlined below. This route stops and picks up from the front of the school on the Petworth Road and therefore parents may wish to tell children of the need for extra caution whilst waiting by the busy road.

"I would add I am not happy about the way in which this has been handled by Stagecoach, although at present there seems little more I can do. I will, of course, update this information should there be any further developments. If parents wish to contact Stagecoach direct then the number is 08451 210190."
