Pupils from Rodborough School at Milford will be making the news tomorow...literally!

For the school is one of those around the country taking part in the BBC News School Report day, a project which aims to encourage children to report on the news as they see it and topics which effect them.

School Report, now in its fifth year, gives 11 to 14-year-old students the chance to make their own news bulletins, web features and radio items for a real audience. Over the last few months pupils have been practicing reporting on news that interests them.

"The students are reporting on ‘Healthy Schools’ and ‘School Uniforms’ in film form. And articles about: ‘Anorexia’, ‘Young Athletes’, ‘Gaming Addiction’, ‘Leonard Cheshire Homes’, ‘Facebook’, ‘Underage Drinking’ and ‘The RS Factor’ – a Rodborough talent competition." explains teacher Rachel Chambers who is heading the Rodborough entry.

"We first did News Report last year and had a number of BBC production staff come in to work with us on a couple of occasions; the website provides a link to last year’s stories as well. We wanted to do it again this year for a couple of reasons: students are incredibly excited about reporting, using film and other media; we want to encourage students to be aware of the wider world; it is a great project in terms of encouraging independence."
