Traffic Chaos Follows Godalming Road`Closure

Traffic routes into Godalming were thrown into chaos yesterday to allow repair work to continue to the rail bridge along the Portsmouth Road.

But frustrated motorists were left fuming at the lack of signage and and diversion signals, warning that the town was left sealed off by the work along the A3100.

Diversion signs placed along the old A3 at Milford warned of the closure...but motorists driving from Milford centre towards Godalming were left with no warning of the closure until furious motorists confronted the actual workplace and road closure. Many drivers were simply left to turn around and attempt to find another route into Godalming centre.

There were reports of similar confusion throughout other rural routes into the town.

Hopefully the planners will learn from such mistakes when further work commences.
